DOMESTIC ABUSE & SEXUAL ASSAULT

Domestic abuse can take a toll on your mental health, potentially causing or worsening conditions like depression, anxiety & PTSD. EMDR

I specialise in supporting clients who have experienced trauma, no matter what form it takes. Trauma is deeply personal and doesn’t always stem from what we expect, like an assault or car crash—it can also arise from events like a difficult birth, unexpected loss, or relationship breakdown. I offer EMDR therapy, a proven approach to healing trauma, and have a particular focus on supporting women and families in the perinatal period. If your birth experience left you feeling isolated or overwhelmed, I’m here to help you process those emotions, reclaim your sense of peace, and enjoy new parenthood without the weight of past trauma. You shouldn't have to feel distressed when recalling your birth experience. Recovering from birth trauma can be incredibly difficult. Even if your delivery seemed uncomplicated compared to others, it doesn't mean it wasn't traumatic for you.

Perinatal Anxiety

Perinatal anxiety can occur before or after giving birth, with antenatal anxiety happening during pregnancy and postnatal anxiety in the year after. It's natural to feel anxious at times, especially as a new parent, but when those worries become persistent and overwhelming, it can feel hard to cope. Whether your anxiety stems from past experiences, difficult birth stories, or fears about your baby, I can help. I offer support to manage catastrophic thinking and teach calming strategies to ease your nervous system, helping you feel more in control during this transformative time.

Baby loss

Losing a baby is devastating, whether through miscarriage, termination, stillbirth, or loss in the NICU. Every form of baby loss is profound, and you don’t have to face it alone. Grieving the loss of both your baby and the future you had envisioned is an incredibly personal journey. This grief is often intertwined with trauma, and you may find yourself reliving the loss, even years later. It can feel isolating when others expect you to have moved on. You’re seeking peace, to honour your bond with your baby, and to find a way forward. While there are no quick fixes for grief, working with a specialist counsellor can help you process your loss and begin to heal.

Domestic Abuse & Sexual Assault Counselling

Abusers often use mental health to control you, but it’s crucial to remember that the abuse is never your fault—it’s the abuser’s responsibility. Domestic abuse can leave you feeling confused, isolated, and doubting your decisions. Leaving an abusive relationship is incredibly hard, and there are often many reasons you feel you should stay. Reaching out for support is a huge, courageous step, and you should be proud of yourself. I can help you explore the complexities of your relationship, understand its impact on your emotional health, and recognise red flags, empowering you to build a healthier future.

If you’ve been sexually assaulted, it’s important to remember that it wasn’t your fault. Sexual violence is a crime, no matter who commits it or where it happens. You may fear that retelling your experience will be painful or worry about being judged or not believed. I’m here to offer you a safe, confidential space to process what happened and help you regain a sense of safety in the world.
